George Katzman Obituary

George Katzman age 62 of Crestview went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday May 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. George was born on July 11, 1957 in Wiesbaden, Germany to Harry Katzman and Jean Weldon.  Growing up George loved sports, loved playing sports and watching sports. Later in life he would become a referee and umpire high school and little league games.  When he moved to Crestview George was very involved with the community and continued his love of sports by helping on the “chain gang” on Friday nights at the high school football games.  George was the associate pastor at Woodlawn Baptist Church and was living his dream job, the ministry.  George ministered to many people in the church as well as the local community, he never met a stranger.  George was very active with his family and his daughters’ activities, whether it was selling snow cones at the ball games or volunteering as a band parent or cheering at the volleyball games.  George loved God and he loved people.

Preceded in death by his step-father, Ray Weldon; and step-mother, Lydia Katzman.

Survivors include his parents, Jean Weldon and Harry Katzman; wife of 34 years Cynthia Katzman; daughters: Beth Browning and husband Josh, and Amy Katzman; brother Jack Katzman and wife Nanette; sisters: Karma Caine and Risha Katzman.

A time of visitation with the family will be on Monday, June 1, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church.  The celebration of George’s life will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. privately for the family.  George’s service will be live streamed on Woodlawn’s’ Facebook so folks in the community can celebrate his homegoing. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in George’s memory to Woodlawn Baptist Church or Exodus Ministries.
