Gladys Jeanette (“Jette”) Langley
November 2, 1940 – March 24, 2025
Gladys Langley, to her friends and co-workers, and Jette to her family, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025 after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease.
Gladys was born in Laurel Hill, FL on November 2, 1940. She attended Crestview High School and Northwest FL State College, and then she met the love of her life, George, and began the adventure of living all of the world. George was in the USAF, and he and Gladys had all four of their children in different places, including North Dakota, Alaska, Texas, and England. After George’s retirement in 1972, they settled in her hometown of Crestview, FL. Gladys was a wonderful, devoted mother and homemaker until her youngest child started school, at which time she began driving an Okaloosa County school bus to have the same schedule and holidays as her children. Gladys then retired after 32 years. Gladys was a member of Garden City Baptist Church. She was a prior DAV Women’s auxiliary and district commander, a member of the VFW, American Legion, and AmVets. She was a faithful contributor to numerous Veteran’s charities, as well as St. Jude.
And oh how she loved to dance. She had a fun nature and loved doing anything with her friends and family. She was always on the go. She loved to travel, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Fairley & Nettie Franklin, her husband of 32 years, George W. Langley, her brother Dallas F. Franklin, her sister Daisy Davis, and her only son, Steve Langley. Gladys is survived by her brother Billy Joe Franklin (Helen), her daughters, Georgie Kelley (Tim), Cheri McDaniel, and Amy Manning (Eric), three granddaughters – Ashley McDaniel, Elizabeth Hollingsworth, & Erica Manning, great grandchildren Jonathan Whidden and Emma Whidden, two great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Her daughters would like to thank the staff of Eden at Crestview for the loving care of their mother.
Funeral services will be held at Whitehurst-Powell funeral home on Friday, March 28, 2025, with visitation at 10 AM and the service at 11 AM.
