Hayward Thomas “Tommy” Hayes Jr. 

August 2, 1953 - June 9, 2023 

Hayward Thomas “Tommy” Hayes, Jr. passed away at his home in Cairo, GA on Friday, June 9, 2023 after battling a long illness, with his beloved dog Ollie by his side. 

He was born on August 2, 1953 in Valparaiso, FL. Tommy was a longtime resident of Crestview, FL and graduated from Crestview High School. Following his retirement from Okaloosa County Engineering, he moved to Andalusia, AL where he loved fishing, cooking, and spending time with his neighbors on Gantt Lake. He spent the last few years living with his brother in Cairo, GA. where he enjoyed watching his great nieces and nephews drive his pink golf cart. Tommy loved all sports, but especially NASCAR racing and Alabama football. He had a kind and generous heart- always giving to those in need. 

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Hayward T. Hayes Sr. and Avis Juanita Spivey Hayes.

Tommy is survived by his brother, Jerry Hayes (Joyce) of Cairo, Ga; sister, Patti Godwin (Carl) of Baker, FL; one aunt, Martha Ann Hayes, his nephew and nieces, and many great nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Andrew Merrill of  Lodi, NY. 

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, beginning at 2:00 pm at Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview, Florida. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home in Crestview, FL.
