Nancy Helen Steele, age 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 15, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 21, 1934 in Battens Crossroads, Alabama to Fannie and Elmer Andrews. Helen moved to Baker 52 years ago and since then she has made this community her home. She was the church secretary for Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Baker for several years. She co-founded, with her husband, RACE a therapeutic horseback riding program and had a passion for helping people and serving the Lord. Helen was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Crestview. She was an avid reader and loved playing suduko. She loved flowers, especially her magnolias. Her most important passions in life were her faith, her family, her friends, and her community. She lit up when she spoke about her children, they were both so important to her. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Andrews.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald Dewitt Steele; son, Joseph Steele; daughter, Sabra Arzaga and husband John; nephew, John Andrews; grandchildren, Michael Steele and his wife Courtney, Jessica Williams and her husband Nathan, Caitlin Deems and her husband Josh, and Rachel Arzaga; and great grandchildren, Ethan, Avery, Joel, and Claire.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Doctor Eugene Strickland will be officiating the services.
The family asks that if you come to the services that you practice social distancing in family groups and that you wear a masks or face covering while at the service. Helen loved her community and would not want to be the cause of spreading COVID to any of her friends or family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Emerald Coast Hospice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com
