Hilda Wynona Thomas

Hilda Winona Thomas, age 79, passed away on February 15, 2023. She was born on March 5, 1943 in Crestview, Florida to Carey and Dorothy Barnhill. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida.

Hilda was very creative and especially loved sewing and quilting where she was a member of the Bernina club in Pensacola. She loved going to sewing seminars and watching sewing shows on TV and on YouTube. She had lots of sewing machines and fabric and she had made kids shirts and cheerleading outfits and many different things over the years. She liked taking short weekend drives in the country, loved collecting knick knacks like tea pots and decorative bells and statuettes. She loved images and statuettes of butterflies, hummingbirds, ducks, cardinals, etc. Hilda loved gardening around the house, working in the yard when she could and she loved to join Dad in his hobbies as well. Dad often commented on what a great wife she was to always join in with him and try to enjoy his hobbies with him and not exclude herself from them. She loved taking long trips all over the country where she was the driver and dad was the map reader. She also loved Hawaii and took a couple trips there which she enjoyed very much. Towards the end she had a little house on a lake and she loved looking out over the water, watching the wildlife there and feeding her adopted ducks. Hilda liked cars and at 78 years old even picked out and purchased her own little convertible sportscar.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roy (Dwight) Thomas and parents, Carey and Dorothy Barnhill.

Hilda is survived by her son, Michael Darrin Thomas; sisters, Karen (Diane) Grant, Janice Miachelle Thames, and Helen Isabelle Marshall; grandchildren, Drake Michael Thomas and Addison Renee Thomas; great-grandchild, Jayla Ryann Thomas.

In lieu of flowers the family would like for donations to be made to the American Heart Association.

A time of visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023 from 10:00-11:00am at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home with the service starting at 11:00am with burial to follow at Almarante Cemetery.
