Hollis Smith

Hollis Smith age 90 of Crestview passed away on Thursday July 14, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 13, 1931, in Munford, AL to R.C. and Nellie Smith. Hollis grew up in Munford, AL and graduated from Munford High School in 1950 where he was the Valedictorian. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country for 4 years. Hollis then went on the attend Jacksonville State University where he majored in Math and Chemistry. In 1959 Hollis and his family moved to Crestview and he taught at Northwood Junior High School for 8 years. Hollis then started his career with Eglin working Civil Service for many years and then went to work for a Defense Contractor before retiring at age 74. Hollis was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and the church Treasurer. He then became a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church until his passing. Hollis is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mazell Smith and his son Scott Smith.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Morrison and husband Lanny of Ashland City, TN; grandchildren, Sunny Coon and husband Jeremy of Laurel Hill, Chris Smith and his wife Shanna of Colorado Springs, CO, Holly Nicole Smith of  Clewiston, Fl, Anna Shearon and husband Bryant of  Ashland City, TN; Great grandchildren, Maegan Reed and husband Joe, Barrett Coon, Isabella Coon, Asher Smith, Jolie Shearon, Easton Shearon, Everly Shearon, Reason Scott Smith, Hannah Williams, Haley Williams, Morrison Williams, and Mallory Williams.

The celebration of Hollis’ life will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery.
