I was one of your son’s chaplains at RTC. I was impressed with your son’s attitude and never quit mentality, even in the face of adversity. I was saddened to learn of his death.

Dealing with so many recruits, their faces and names run together, but I do remember him. May the peace of Christ continue to comfort you.

My son was on your son's boat crew at
one point in the journey. He and several others have left the program and are now in Pensacola. A few weekends ago, after a social media posting from your daughter, they realized James was close to them. They have visited his grave and sent pictures to many. He will never be forgotten by his Navy friends.

At the time you lost your son, mine was in the Coast Guard's boot camp and hoped that their trainers would honor and respect their trainees. I can and do imagine and share the pain, sorrow and senseless loss. I am so sorry, I wish I could offer more.

There are really no words that can express how I feel at this moment. I have tears streaming down my face as I write this post about a young man that I have never met. I read about his death today on a news report only because his picture immediately caught my attention... I am not sure why except for the fact that we are a Navy family here as well. My brother is in the service around his age and just about everything to do with the military catches my attention now a days. His face reminded me of my brother. .so young. .so full of life. .so full of happiness. .with so much life ahead of him. I cannot imagine the heartache that you all are going through at this time but know that his service to our country is TRULY appreciated. It is such an honor to have young men williningly serving our country with such dedication and determination such as James displayed in his training . . . even until his passing. I can only imagine how tough that training has to be. I know you have probably heard this a thousand times, but I am praying for everyone surrounding him. James, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! I am writing this with a heavy heart. My son is in 319 and today is day 2 of Hell week. He told us that the entire group really pulled together the week after the memorial in Coronado and that it gave them peace to meet you all. No words will ever make it better but those young men in 319 will never, ever forget their brother and I believe hat some who would not make it through now have him from up above guiding them along the tough journey ahead. Dear Lovelace Family,

Words can not begin to express my heartfelt condolences for your son, brother, nephew, cousin, and grandson. I am writing this with a very heavy heart because my son is also in Class 319 and I know the dangers and risk involved in what these beautiful, strong young men are embarking on. As a parent I want to be the most supportive I can be but at the same time I worry ALOT. I don't know if Mr. Lovelace remembers but he spoke to my husband Bill at the graduation in Great Lakes in January at the hotel we were staying at. It was a very special time, a time we were all so proud of our children and so excited about there futures. Then reality sinks in and the worrying starts. Your son accomplished so much in his time and did it with such pride, joy and enthusiasm. May god be with you through this very difficult time and know that we pray for you each and every day. My friend, who's husband is a police officer and faces eminent danger daily, told me "Let God, Let Go". You are an amazing family and James represented you with the utmost dignity. Please stay strong for each other and keep James close in your heart and memories. What a wonderful young man.

We've never met, but my son Blake was side-by-side with Derrick throughout every bit of preparation and training the past year, including Class 319. He spoke of your son often, including just last week when he told me Derrick's injured foot was getting better just in time for Phase 1.
I truly cannot pretend to imagine your loss. They say every adversity carries with it a seed of equal or greater importance. Now, Blake is more determined than ever to get that SEAT Trident. He says that's exactly the way his Buddy Derrick would want it. He's doing it for two now...
So RIP Sailor Derrick and love & prayers to your family.

This year Derek and I got extremely close while he was doing training in pensacola and staying with Rachel and I in our apartment. He was the most determined person I have ever met and would never quit. He was always there for me when I'd come home after a long day of nursing school and would motivate me when I wanted to quit. Derek was one of a kind. He cared more about others then he ever did himself. I love you Derek and I miss you more than words can describe.

I can't imagine the pain that you must be going through right now, and my heart breaks for you. I have a son just a few days older then James. He is under way right now with the Navy, and I'm a nervous wreck. You got the phone call that every military parent fears, and my heart truly breaks for you. You have to know though that James is back with his mama now, and they're both watching down on you. Heaven must have needed another angel, and now your family has two Guardian Angels. James was chasing his dream, and you have to respect that. Such a great young man, and truly a tremendous loss. RIP Sailor. Your comrades will take the next watch.

I wanted to send you a note, even though I do not know you all. I am so sorry for your loss, and just want you all to know that I will be thinking of you in the coming days and months ahead. My children and several nieces and nephews are just beginning their careers, and are around your loved one's age. I can only imagine how difficult this was for y'all to deal with....even accepting that he wanted to be a navy seal, must have been difficult. I have first cousins whose children went into the Marines, friends whose husbands were Marines, Army, and Navy, (I attended North Georgia College, which was a military college..(for the guys at that time...now the lady's are involved, too)
