James Harper age 67 of Laurel Hill passed away on Saturday May 23, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Florala, AL on January 30, 1953 to Clarence “Shorty” Harper and Estelle Blankenship. James served his country in the United States Air Force as a Fuel Specialist and was a Vietnam Veteran. James loved sitting on the porch and watching his hummingbirds. He also loved to “piddle” and work on things. James loved helping people out in a time of need but, most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.
James is preceded in death by his wife Alice, his father Shorty Harper and sister Janice Harrison.
Survivors include his mother Estelle Blankenship; daughters: Brandi Williams and husband Perry and Elizabeth Overstreet and husband Richard; brothers: Kennith Harper and Benjamin Harper; sisters: Francine Willis, Irene Butler, Gwen Deal, and Darlene Parra. The apple of his eye his grandchildren: James, Anthony, Ricky, Lily, Todd, and Priscilla, along with his 2 great grandchildren: Emmalynn and Oliver.
There will be a visitation on Friday, May 29,2020 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. The family will be holding a private family service at a later date.
