James Ward

James L. Ward age 91 of Crestview passed away on Thursday January 5, 2023, at North Okaloosa Medical Center. He was born in Dorcas, Florida on April 5, 1931 to George and Bertha Ward. James grew up in the Dorcas area and moved to Crestview to be near the love of his life Etta Fay Blackerby. He served his country in the United States Army and was in the Korean War. James went to work at Eglin and worked as a Manager with Warehouse and supply. James loved to hunt and fish and work in his garden. He loved to ride on his tractor and lawnmower, even cutting the grass a couple weeks before his passing. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids. James was preceded in death by his parents, Son Rodney Dean Ward, Brothers: Tommy and Lance Ward; nephews Mike and George Ward.

          James is survived by his wife of 67 years Etta Fay Ward; daughter Susan Blakey and husband Carl; grandchildren: Tyler Blakey and wife Brandi, Dustin Blakey and Haley, and Jonathan Ward; great grandchildren: Addisyn, Aubrey, Weston, and Tate.

          The celebration of James life will be on Monday January 9, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Dorcas Baptist Church Cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 a.m.
