James “Jimmy” Edward Joiner

James “Jimmy” Edward Joiner, age 94, of Baker, Florida, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022.
Jimmy was born October 10, 1927 in Andalusia, AL, the son of Allen L. and Laila M. Hudson Joiner. He graduated from Baker High School with the class of 1947. Jimmy played pro baseball with the Phillies, semi pro baseball with the Monsanto and Crestview Interstate teams, and with a tristate team as well as a Baker team. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for 66 years. He was married to his partner and the love of his life, Velmaree Joiner for 74 ¾ years. He volunteered for many years, traveling with the sports teams of Baker High School and the church. He retired after 30 years of service from Monsanto. Jim loved fishing, hunting, going to church, and playing ball.
Survivors include his wife, Velmaree Hobbs Joiner; sons, James Michael Joiner (Donna) and Alan Edward Joiner (Lorraine); daughter, Meri Len Lee (Barry); grandchildren, Jamie Scott (Jamey), Kristin Dyal, P.J. Joiner (Charlene), Amy Gonzalez (Andis), Abby Nader (Travis Williams), Donnie Joiner (Lisa Marie), Craig Joiner, Varick Joiner (Ivana), Ami Batson (Coleman), Chase Klein (Corey), and Alyssa Lee ; 27 great-grandchildren; and 7 great great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Allen Joiner Junior, Henry Joiner, and Warren Joiner; baby sister; great grandchildren, Warren Joiner, Baby Batson, and Cayson Klein; sisters-in-laws, Mae, Mildred, Alpha, Lillie Mae, Ethelenda, Margaret.
There will be a visitation with the family beginning at 2pm on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. The celebration of Jimmy’s life will begin at 3 with Reverend Geoff Prows officiating.
