James "Jimmy" Lunsford

James Clyde Lunsford, “Jimmy” age 84 passed away Sunday March 1, 2020 at Crestview Rehab. Jimmy was born March 24, 1935 to James Leon and Elma Mae Cobb Lunsford, he was the oldest of 13 children.

Jimmy was a devoted father, son and brother, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lucile; parents, James Leon and Elma Mae Cobb Lunsford; brothers, Ralph and Joe Lunsford; and Sister Lavonia King.  Jimmy is survived by his three children and their spouses: JoAnn Lofton (Danny), Steve Lunsford (Paula), Patti Griffin (Floyd), four amazing grandchildren (Casey, Heather, Brittney and Trey).  Brothers Jackie, Jessie, Robert, Ronnie and Dwayne and sisters Lou Berta, Mary, Lora and Barbara.

Jimmy was a devoted family man, he left home before finishing high school and joined the army in order to help support his twelve siblings.  Jimmy spent a total of three years in the army, 18 months of that time deployed to Korea. After leaving the army Jimmy served in the reserves and during that time met and married Lucille Suggs, Lucille and Jimmy were married on July 7, 1956 and began their family. After the army reserves Jimmy worked many jobs before landing a job with the Okaloosa gas company where he would work for the next 32 years before retiring. Jimmy loved to hunt and fish even though hunting season routinely began on his wife’s birthday.  He didn’t always take a deer or catch many fish, but the fellowship with his friends while hunting and fishing meant more to him than doing well at hunting and fishing. Anyone who knew Jimmy understood he had the mind of an engineer and that there very little that he could not build from scratch or repair.

Visitation will be held at Victoria’s Life Worship Center, Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 6-8PM with a celebration of Jimmy’s life on March 6, 2020 at 2PM at Victoria’s Life Worship Center with the Reverend Donnie Cadenhead presiding. Burial will follow at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.
