James Harvel Smith Jr. (Jimmy), age 68, of Laurel Hill, Florida, passed away December 24, 2022. He was born on September 23, 1954, in Mobile, Alabama to James (Harvel) Smith Sr. and Joan T. Smith. Jimmy grew up in Mobile, Quincy, and ended in Laurel Hill where he attended High School and graduated in 1972. After graduation he continued his education, but his passion was driving the big rigs all over the United States and parts of Canada. He always humored everyone with his stories and the people he would meet on the road. Jimmy retired in May of ’21, giving most of his life to the trucking industry. He enjoyed fishing and sitting around a campfire, enjoying family and friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James Harvel Smith Sr.; mother, Joan T Smith; nephew, Charles Daniel Smith; and niece, Mary Smith Williams.
Jimmy is survived by his son, James Christopher Smith; brothers, Larry Smith and wife Vivian, and Vernon Ray Smith; sister, Lynn Smith Hughes and husband Mike, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held at 11am Tuesday, January 3, 2022, at the Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 10 am. Graveside services will follow the service at the Paxton, Florida Cemetery.
