Jari Baxter

With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that on Friday, October 25th at 11:20 pm Jari Baxter of Crestview Florida took her last breath. It is Jari’s wish that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jari to Backpack Buddies https://www.backpackbuddiesofbaker.org/
Jari leaves behind her husband David, her two sons, David George and David John, her daughter Marhea, and 6 grandchildren. She’s also leaving behind her brothers, sisters, extended family, close friends, and the many people who she’s touched with her heart.

Mom always said “Do as I say not as I do,” but when it comes to acts of kindness spoken not by word but action - I think she exemplified the change she wished to see in the world.

Mom felt deeply, but sometimes struggled to speak and the words she could not mouth, she penned in letters, in the birthday cards that she never forgot to send, and wrapped in hand-crafted gifts she spent hours working to make just right. 

If your tummy grumbled she filled it with baked-from-scratch cookies and cakes or cooked a feast of your favorite foods to eat.

If your heart ached, she’d crochet you a cover or sew a baby blanket to keep you sheltered. If you ever found yourself without a place to stay, Jari and David opened their doors to give you a home.
Thank you for touching so many lives through the years that you cut your hair to give it to children with cancer at  Locks of Love, to the presents under Christmas trees gifted to  Toys for Tots, and to the many bags you filled with love at Backpack Buddies of Baker.

She gave us many memories around Thanksgiving tables, thank you mom.

I remember the nights curled up watching Disney movies.  “I loved watching the childlike twinkle dance across her eyes when the movie began.”

Now, By the donation of her corneas, another two people will experience twinkled sight too.

She sang to her grandchildren her favorite song to sing - You Are My Sunshine, a name she called Christian - her dearest grandson. “Every time they would sing it together, it would always melt my heart,” says her son, David John.

Thank you for always taking care of me, in sickness and in health, for the warm hugs, five kisses every time we kissed, and for saying I love you before we fell asleep each night of our 44 years together.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30th  from 5:00-7:00pm at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home.
