Joe Matthew Brooks was born on March 27, 1942, in Madison, Tennessee, to Thomas and Vinnie (Martin) Brooks. He was the third eldest of seven siblings.
After graduating from Union High School in Gallatin, Tennessee, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant before retiring in 1982.
At the age of 43, Joe met Delores Reese, and the two were united in marriage in 1985. Together, they raised their son, Shannon. Joe was a devoted husband and loving father who cherished his family deeply.
Joe enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He loved shooting pool, golfing, fishing, and hunting. He also had a remarkable green thumb and maintained a large, beautiful garden for many years. Above all, Joe treasured spending time with his “buddies”, creating lasting memories and friendships.
Joe Brooks fell asleep in death on May 13, 2026, at the age of 84.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Sammy Brooks, John Brooks, and Harold Brooks; and his sister, Norma Mallory; Stepfather, Garrett Martin.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Delores Brooks; his son, Shannon Brooks; his sisters, Sandra Williams and Betty Goins, Wreco (Chistina) Reese, Alfonso (Janice) Reese, Geraldine (James) Cocklin along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Listen for the whisper it’s me. We’ll miss each other for a time, but you’ll return with that sweet smile, and if they ask where I’ve been just Tellem,
“I’ve gone fishing”
