Liane Garrett Obituary

Liane Griffith Garrett (nee Roush), 82, of Crestview, FL passed from her earthly life to her eternal life in the early morning of Friday, June 18, 2021. Liane was born June 23, 1938 in Morocco, Indiana to Victor and Lona Roush.

After Liane graduated from Hammond High School she joined the Women’s Army Corps from 1956 to 1958 where she met her future husband, John Griffith, in Denver, CO at Fitzsimon’s Army Medical Center. John and Liane married on August 22, 1958. They had three children, Serena, John, and Kathryn. In true Army fashion, they moved to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO and onward to Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, and then back to Fort Carson where John retired from military service.

Throughout their travels, Liane attended college at Leeward Community College in Honolulu and graduated with straight As, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business/Accounting from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Liane, very gifted with numbers, used her accounting and bookkeeping skills throughout her career in the Civil Service in Pueblo, CO. John and Liane retired to Crestview, FL in 1994 where Liane spent much of her time volunteering for various organizations. After John’s death in 1999, Liane dove further into volunteerism, passionately serving the community she loved so dearly. One organization very dear to her heart was Saving Grace Women’s Home whose mission is to support women battling with addiction, abuse, and homelessness. She volunteered in the accounting department at the North Okaloosa Medical Center. She held the role of treasurer for the Women’s Service Group from the First United Methodist church who supported homeless teens and the crisis pregnancy center in the community. She was also the treasurer for the Women’s Club of Crestview among many others. Another passion of Liane’s was baking, creating award winning and heavenly tasting confections. Known for making the best desserts, the veterans at the VA hospital were extra excited when they knew it was Liane’s day to serve. Liane’s creativity didn’t end with her desserts, extending into jewelry making. Liane utilized this craft to fundraise for the many causes her volunteer groups supported.

Liane was blessed to meet another wonderful man, Dudley Garrett, whom she met at First United Methodist Church. They were fortunate to have found love with each other, marrying in 2004.

Liane is preceded in death by her parents Victor and Lona Roush, both husbands, John and Dudley, and her granddaughter Lynsey.

Liane is survived by her children, Serena Mattingly (Curt), John Victor Griffith, and Kathryn Hoogeboom (Bill); her brother Michael; her grandchildren, Sabrina Kleinheitz (Daniel) and Andrew Hoogeboom (Emily); cousin and best friend, Bobbi Burton; friend and companion David Toves; and several great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.

Public viewing will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Crestview, FL on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 9:00am to 10:00am, followed by services. Liane will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery in the presence of her family.
