Lois E. Smart
Lois Smart, Age 86, of Crestview, Florida departed this earth December 18, 2023 at Fort Walton-Destin Hospital to spend eternity with her Heavenly Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband Johnnie.
Lois was born May 21, 1937 in Graceville, Florida and graduated from Graceville High School. On July 5, 1955 she married Johnnie Lloyd Smart of Crestview, Florida and a member of the United States Air Force. They would later settle in Crestview, Florida where they raised their family. Lois worked as a controller for Civil Engineering at Eglin AFB and Duke Field retiring in January 2000 after 27 years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was a hard worker and loved the outdoors.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Lloyd Smart of Crestview, parents John Henry Everidge and Ruby Jewell Everidge of Graceville, brother Roy Everidge of Graceville, Florida, and sister Margaret Whitaker of Jacksonville, Florida.
She is survived by her children, daughter Brenda Powell and husband Buddy Powell of Temple, Texas, daughter Deborah Hamilton of Crestview, Florida and son John Smart of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; as well as six grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, Charlsie, Racheal, Christopher, and Jeremy and eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am Friday at Dorcas Baptist Church in Dorcas, Florida. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am at Dorcas Baptist Church with a graveside service to follow at Dorcas Cemetery with Reverend David Van Zandt officiating the services.
The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to all who helped care for Lois in her final years here on earth. A special note of thanks to Mrs. Jane Scott, a trusted friend and caregiver, granddaughter Kelly and her husband Anthony Brady and grandson Jeremy and his wife Tiffany Ward.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to charities or services aiding in the treatment and cure of dementia and support of those suffering with the disease.
