Lorene Owen Obituary

Ellen Lorene (King) Owen: It is with an abundance of sadness and joy that we announce the passing of our mother, Ellen Lorene Owen. Sadness because we have lost our mother, friend, and sister. Joy because she has joined so many of her loved ones with her Lord and Savior. Lorene was born to Sylvester and Lou Vera King on February 8, 1932. She was a lifelong resident of Crestview and a faithful member of the Airport Road Church of Christ. She gave up her earthly body to join her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 4 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. In the words of one of her beloved grandchildren, after the passing of granddaddy, “she was the true picture of a matriarch. She held our family together better than super glue.” Lorene is also proceeded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Katy and Tom Dugan, two sisters; Charlotte(Charlie) Tracy and Sybil(Squibb) Doris, one brother Kenneth and two grandchildren; Lorena Rose Neel and Michael Dwain Jarriel. Lorene loved to hunt and fish. She enjoyed a nice, slow ride down a not often traveled dirt road looking for deer tracks or riding the river checking the set hooks for the catch of the day. She also loved her family, both her Church family and her earthly family and will be sorely missed by them all. You would think with these loves her days were full, but she always had time. She sewed, knitted, and crocheted clothes, scarves and afghans for anyone with a need. Very often she did all of this “just because”, there was a need not a request. Lorene had several jobs in her lifetime, including personal assistant to Dr. Rhett Enzor. The one position that she held in high priority over everything was that of being a mother, like her grandchild said “she held us together.” She is survived by her four brothers: Harold “Sky”, Glen(Linda), Ralph(Mary) and Bill. Her children: Viola Owens, Wanda and Charlie Neel, Larry and Vickey Owen, Charles Ray and Polly Owen, Teresa and Clayton White, and Cliff and Susan Owen, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. She loved them all equally, yet when they were in her arms they were her favorite. Her hugs will be missed almost as much as her infectious smile. A time of visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday September 8, 2021 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Airport Road Church of Christ. The celebration of Lorene’s life will begin at 4:00 p.m. and Burial will follow in the Owen family cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.
