Mr. Mack Brooks, age 90 passed peacefully November 17, 2020 at North Okaloosa Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born April 13, 1930 in Baker, FL to Robert Lee and Boncile (Harrison) Brooks. For over 60 years he owned and operated Mack Brooks Barber Shop in Crestview Florida. An accomplished musician, artist, and story teller he was well known and regarded in the community as well as the State of Florida. One of his paintings hung in the State Capitol during the terms of Governor Lawton M. Childs, Jr. and was recognized by the State of Florida as a cultural icon in our area.
Mack is preceded in death by his parents and two of his brothers: Hugh and Wayne Brooks.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 67 years, Inez (Locke) Brooks of Crestview, his son; Johnny Mack Brooks of Crestview, and his daughter; Jequita Brooks-Barnsdale and her husband Reggie of Crestview. He is also survived by his brothers; Rhett and his wife Shirley and Robert and his wife Patricia Brooks all of Crestview, FL as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 5 to 7 PM at the Chapel of The Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home, 436 West James Lee Blvd. Crestview, FL 32536. The family requests that face masks and appropriate Covid-19 precautions be observed.
Burial will take place at the Pyron Chapel Cemetery on William Gary Johnson Rd. Baker, FL at 11 am. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery 15 minutes prior and observe Covid-19 precautions.
