Mark Wayne Tompkins, born on December 31, 1957, in Sterling, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, in Crestview, Florida. He was 67 years old. Mark's life, spanning nearly seven decades, was a testament to love, family, and a passion for the simple joys in life.

Mark was the cherished son of Emory Wayne Tompkins and Adeline Sue Eilers. Growing up in Sterling, he was surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Monica Tompkins, whom he married on May 24, 2013, after being together for a decade. Their bond was characterized by a deep affection and mutual respect that lasted throughout their years together.

Mark was a proud father to his son, Calvin Tompkins, of Rock Falls, Illinois. He also embraced his role as a stepfather to Bob Miller and his wife Gena of Holt, Florida, and Lisa Hicks and her husband Josh of Dothan, Alabama. He found immense joy in being a grandfather to two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, always taking the time to nurture those special relationships.

Mark was the loving brother of Ellen Wagner and her husband Steve, Pennie Shipley and her husband Neal, and Pat Tompkins, all of Sterling, Illinois. His siblings remember him as a thoughtful and loving brother who brought light and laughter into their lives.

Throughout his life, Mark cultivated a variety of interests that showcased his gentle spirit and love for nature. He had a passion for growing plants, which brought him closer to the beauty of the world around him. He was also a devoted animal lover, with a special fondness for his dogs, who were not just pets but beloved companions. As a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears, Mark often brought his family together to celebrate every game, sharing in the excitement and camaraderie that sports can foster.

Mark was known for his thoughtfulness, always going out of his way to make those around him feel loved and appreciated. His caring nature and ability to connect with people will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
