Marlene Patricia Luke left this world to be with The Lord on July 13, 2024. She was born to Herschel and Mae Rutledge on September 12, 1934 in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Master of Science in Education from The University of West Florida.
Marlene loved spending time with family, including babysitting all four of her grandchildren in their younger years. She was a dedicated nurse until 1965. She then pursued a career in education. She served as a school teacher at Northwood Middle School, Richbourg Junior High School, Southside Elementary, and Baker School. She later retired from teaching with Okaloosa County School District.
She was a faithful Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Crestview, serving for decades in roles as a teacher, records keeper, and piano player for her Sunday school classes. She was also a dedicated wife of a Life Deacon.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Daniel L. Luke, Sr. She is survived by her two sons: Daniel L. (Debbie) Luke, II and Stanley K. (Alisa) Luke; four granddaughters: Stephanie Luke, Elizabeth (Clint) Irby, Lexie (Sean) Macri, and Maddie Luke; as well as four great grandchildren: Olivia, Leighton, Emma, and Archer. According to her wishes, there will be a graveside service at Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:00 am, with Pastor Stan Lewis officiating.
