Mary Catherine Hinton

Mary Catherine Hinton, born August 21, 1930 in Rockingham County, North Carolina, passed into her eternal home in heaven November 23, 2021.  She was preceded by her husband, Rev. A. Paul Hinton, her oldest son, Joseph Hinton, her parents Jacob and H. Thelma Spangler and her sister Betty Hinton.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother of 6 children and 1 foster son.  By the side of her husband, they worked together, doing the best that they could to raise their family to know Jesus and pastoring 4 churches over a 50 year span.  She worked diligently in the church, available for any assignment from teaching children’s classes, organizing church potlucks and holiday parties, leading the worship service if need be and cleaning toilets or weeding flower beds.  She loved entertaining in her home, and together they built true friendships with each member in their congregations.

She was committed to her family, always a listening ear, just a phone call away to each of her children and siblings.  She loved and prayed for them daily.

Her hobbies included quilting, crafts, crocheting and gardening, often setting up at craft fairs to sell the work of her hands.  She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, filling her home with pictures of them and traveling to visit them whenever possible, always bearing some small gift.

After the passing of her beloved husband, whom she had been married to since the age of 16, she fell victim to the dreaded Alzheimer’s disease, which she faced valiantly for 8 years before dying in the home of her youngest daughter and son-in-law, who both held her as she took her last breath.

She is survived by her brother, James Spangler, 6 children, Rachel Weber and husband Gary, Jacob Hinton and wife Amy, Mary Kline and husband Tim, August Paul Hinton Jr. and wife Sandy, Naomi Beck and husband Ted, Henry Davidson, 31 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Services will be held at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home, 436 W. James Lee Blvd., Crestview, FL on December 2, 2021.
