Mary Carmen Lyon Smith

June 24, 1937 – December 5, 2021 (age 84)

Mary Carmen Lyon Smith, 84, passed from this life into her eternal life on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

Born in Joanna, SC, she was a daughter of the late Harley and Jessie Kennington Lyon. She lived in Joanna until she married her husband of 61 years, Jaymon Smith.  They immediately moved to Tucson, Arizona where Jaymon was stationed in the Air Force.  In 1969, they moved to Crestview where they resided until 1984.  

They then returned to their home state of SC and pastored several churches for over 30 years until Jaymon’s death in 2016. Mary was a wonderful pastor’s wife.  She played the piano and sang beautifully and also taught Sunday School and worked with youth and women’s ministries.  Mary also had a great love for the elderly and worked in an assisted living facility as activity director before her health declined.  She loved the Lord with all her heart and the love overflowed to those around her.  She never met a stranger and endeared herself to everyone that she met.

At her beloved husband’s death, she returned to Crestview to live with her daughter and family.  She was a loving mother and grandmother and her presence at our home was a joy. 

She is survived by her daughter, Sharry Rustin and husband Keith of Crestview and a grandson, Jaymon “Mitchell” Rustin and wife Rebecka of Crestview.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her sisters, Rachel Lyon Fellers, Margaret Lyon Owens, Audrey Lyon Dent and Elizabeth Lyon Floyd; also, an infant brother and two infant sisters.

A cryptside service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Pinelawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Clinton, SC conducted by Rev. Sherrill Green.

The family will receive friends at the mausoleum immediately following the cryptside service.
