Maudine Cook Howard entered into rest on Thursday morning, September 16, 2021, in Crestview, Florida at the age of 95. Maudine was born in Mossy Head, Walton County, Florida on May 19, 1926 to Henry Allen Cook and Mercades Madolin Langston Cook. Maudine attended Escambia Farms School where she was a member of their winning girls basketball team and where she graduated as Valedictorian. She married Wilson Pershing Howard on May 6, 1943, and traveled with him to Hartford, Connecticut where he was training for deployment to England, then Germany during World War II. While he was deployed overseas, Maudine moved back to Florida where she worked in the Panama City Shipyard as a welder of Liberty Ships. This job was a source of great pride all her life. After spending years as a homemaker, den mother, PTA parent, and raising her three children, she took a job at Okaloosa Memorial Hospital. She began as a receptionist, switchboard operator, and worked her way to bookkeeper, to office manager and finally to hospital administrator. When the hospital moved to its present site she continued to serve as assistant administrator. She spent many happy years wrangling doctors, nurses, and a large number of other employees. Maudine retired from the hospital after 30 plus years to spend time traveling with her husband and hosting the many family gatherings that were enjoyed over the years. She was always the pillar of strength and stability to all her family during the trying times. Maudine was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 49 years, Wilson P. Howard, and siblings Clarence Henry (jr.) Cook, Alla Faye Howe, James Seavy Cook, Charles M. Cook, Ida Jeanette (Coot) Cook, Allen R (Sam) Cook & Mary Cathy Cook (infant). Maudine is survived by her three children and six grandchildren: Daughter, Ruby Etta Frabott and husband Mickey, their daughter Rachael Jordan Quinn and husband Patrick; son, Allen H. Howard and wife Dorene, and their children Nathan Howard, Kimberly Howard and Kristen Odom and husband Craig; son, Don W. Howard, and wife Donna, and their children Christopher Howard and wife Andrea, and Cameron Genrich and husband Daniel. Maudine was blessed with eight Great Grandchildren: Kaylee, Patrick Wilson, Caitlin, Janaya, and Maya James Quinn; Brooklyn Hancock and husband Cody; and Ethan and Allie Howard. Maudine’s most recent pride and joy was the birth of her Great-Great Granddaughter, Ryah Brynn Hancock. Her surviving siblings are Joyce Huffman, Lyla Peacock, Warren (June) Cook, Henrietta Cook, Pete (Dianne) Cook and Dianne (Jerry) Weitzen. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to extend our grateful thanks and appreciation to Maudine’s extended family of Silvercrest Health and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care that Mom received for the past 9 years. A time of visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Whithurst Powell Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Service will immediately follow.
