Melisa Rose Drake, born Melisa Rose Chechak, 61, passed away on September 30, 2025, in Crestview, Florida. Born on December 17, 1963, in Anchorage, Alaska, Melisa was the eldest daughter of Michael Peter Chechak and Virginia Louise Chechak. She is survived by her spouse, Rodney A. Drake Sr.; her children, Rodney Drake Jr., Stefanie Drake, Scott Drake, Virginia Chechak, and Victoria Drake; her four siblings; numerous nieces and nephews; and eight grandchildren.
Melisa was a bright and spirited child who excelled in school and in everything she set her mind to. She ran track, showing determination and drive, and her talents and energy made her stand out among her peers. Beautiful, charming, and full of life, she had a magnetic personality that drew people to her, and she was well-liked by classmates and friends alike. Even at a young age, she carried herself with confidence and warmth, blending her intelligence, humor, and kindness in a way that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. These early years revealed the vibrant, capable, and engaging woman she would grow to be.
As a young adult, Melisa moved to Houston, Texas, where she spent about a decade enjoying a lively and vibrant time in her life. She was beautiful, warm, and funny, with a personality that drew many people to her. She made countless memories, traveled to Switzerland, and even did a bit of modeling, embracing new experiences with energy and curiosity. Her years in Houston reflected her adventurous spirit and her love for connecting with others.
At age 30, Melisa moved to Florida, where she settled down and eventually married Rodney Drake Sr. in February 2001. Together, they raised five children, Rodney Jr., Stefanie, Scott, Virginia, and Victoria—and welcomed eight grandchildren into their lives. Professionally, she worked as an office manager for over 20 years at a trailer company, overseeing the manufacturing plant and excelling at her work. She was skilled, organized, and made meaningful connections with many people throughout her career.
A devoted crafter and cook, Melisa loved to crochet, bead, and make rosaries, fly fishing lures, and gifts for others. She baked sweet breads, pies, candied pecans, and other sweets, always sharing her creations generously with friends and family. Her giving heart extended beyond her loved ones; she was known to help strangers in need, offering kindness without hesitation.
Melisa was a faithful Catholic, and in honor of her memory, she requested that rather than flowers, donations be made to a cause close to your heart.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her.
