Memory Diane Phillips was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world peaceably on November 27th, 2021 at age 79.
She was born to Roy and Lucy Mae Cook on July 23, 1942, and grew up in Wing, Alabama on a farm with two brothers. She met her husband, Thomas Phillips, at Escambia Farms High School where she cheered him on in basketball as he was an all-star player leading them to the 1-A state championship. Together, they raised two daughters, Denise and Sheree.
Diane loved spending time in the kitchen baking cakes for family, friends and church members. She had a talent for baking wedding cakes which turned into a fun-filled pastime. In addition, she prepared beautiful flower arrangements as she worked at a Milton Flower Shop for years. She adored her grandchildren and would travel far and wide to see them, venturing as far north as Minnesota and west to Utah. Finding the perfect gift for birthdays and Christmas was something she was particularly adept at, which brought her and the recipients great joy. She was a long-time member of the West Milton Church of Christ and had an affinity for little children as she taught the cradle roll Sunday school class for many years. She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Thomas Phillips; two daughters, Denise Vonada and Sheree Bell, two brothers, Larry Cook and Jerrell Cook; a sister, Quy Ayers; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for Friday, December 3, with visitation at 10:30 and funeral at 11:00 at the West Milton Church of Christ located at 5300 US Hwy 90, Pace, FL. Also, there will be a short gravesite ceremony at 2:00pm at Union Hill Church of Christ located at 377 Union Ln, Wing, AL.
