Mildred Pauline Blake, of Crestview Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 Pauline was born in Gallia, Ohio and grew up and raised her family in Huntington, WV. She is a Marshall University alumnus where she earned both her BS and Masters degrees. She was a gifted primary teacher for 30+ years in Cabell County, WV and was instrumental as a Director and teacher for one of the first Headstart Programs for underprivileged preschoolers. Her dedication and passion touched many young lives. Pauline loved working with children and spent most of her career as a first-grade teacher. She and Mott provided a home for many exchange students over the years and she loved learning about other cultures. She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She and her beloved husband Mott enjoyed traveling and gardening together. They visited Alaska, France, England, and Japan. She was an avid quilter and basket maker and enjoyed playing her mandolin.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harriet Virginia and Thomas J. Smith, Sr., son William Thomas Blake, sister Ruth Angelee Smith, and brother, William Rucker.
Pauline is survived by her cherished husband of 58 years, Mott Blake; daughter Karen Beazlie and husband Michael; son, Tim Blake; son, Jay Blake; grandchildren Blake Beazlie, Benjamin Beazlie, and Emily Beazlie; brother, Tom Smith and wife Suzanne; sister Virginia Edwards; and numerous, well-loved nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 1, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home, with Rev Alan Kilgore officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 1:00 pm. Interment is at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery, Crestview.
