It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Richard Deforrest Winter ( Junior ) , age 63, of Crestview, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee and spent most of his years growing up in Georgia. He lived a full and hardworking life filled with adventure and strong values.
Richard was known for his tough love and strong will, but beneath his rough exterior was a man who always looked out for others. No one ever went without when he was around. He was devoted to his family.
He had a passion for the outdoors, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life—camping, fishing, floating down the river, grilling a good meal, and sipping a screwdriver. The beach and the river were two of his favorite places, where he could relax and take in the beauty of nature.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Richard spent over 30 years with Stebbins, traveling the world and never missing a day. His work ethic and commitment to his trade were unmatched, and he took great pride in everything he did. During his time at Stebbins, he made lifelong friendships that meant the world to him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Phillips and Richard Winter. He is survived by his life partner, Sandra; his four children, Courtney, Trey, Heather, and Misty; and his seven beloved grandchildren, Alyssa, Emilee, Makayla, Isabella, Averlee, Ridge, and Holden; his siblings, Tony, Mark, Tim and Debra.
Richard was one of the best people in the lives of those who knew him. He taught by example, showing the value of hard work, perseverance, and family. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory and influence will never fade. He was a wonderful, incredibly stubborn and hardheaded man who meant the world to a lot of people and we will miss him every day.
He fought hard for a long time but now he is at peace. I will forever cherish the memories we shared and the lessons he passed down.
There will be no service held at this time, however, we will hold a celebration of life where everyone is welcome to join us in honoring his memory. As soon as we have the dates finalized, we will send out another message. We truly appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time but I find comfort in knowing he was deeply loved by so many. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support—it truly means everything.
Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this loss. Rest in peace Daddy, I will love you forever
