Robert "Big Papa" Boutwell

Robert E. Boutwell, age 87 of Opp, AL, previous & long-time resident of Okaloosa County, passed away on Saturday October 23, 2021. Robert was born in Montgomery, AL on December 25, 1933, to George & Ethel Boutwell. He began his career in the United States Navy as a butcher & after getting out of the Navy he had a lifelong career in Civil service at Eglin Air Force Base Commissary serving as the Meat Department Manager. Robert was a loyal lifelong Crestview High Bulldog supporter. He was an antique collector, leading him to open a flea market in North Crestview. He also was a wood crafting enthusiast making goodies for everyone. Robert was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a Master Mason & Shriner for 50 plus years serving with Old Spanish Trail Shrine Club & Ft Walton Beach Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Hadji Shrine in Pensacola and loved driving the Shriners go carts in the local parades. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers & sisters in law and his beloved wife, Pat Boutwell. Robert is survived by his "Sis" Doris Mauldin; daughters, Earlene Shores and her husband Johnny, Betty Jo Marcotte and her husband David; son, Bob Boutwell and his wife Linda; grandchildren, Missy & husband Davis, Jereme, Jason & wife Alicia, Steve & wife Sabrina, Joey & wife Angie, Nick & wife Christina, Amber & husband Rodney & Davey along with 15 great grandchildren special niece, Audrey Hash and husband, Lewis and their child Amanda & husband Matthew;  and several close nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews and 100s of special friends. A time of visitation with the family will be held on Thursday October 28, 2021, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. The celebration of Robert’s life will be on Friday October 29, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with burial to follow in Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery.
