Rosalie E. Garner, 86, died peacefully at home in Crestview, FL, on November 26, 2024. She was born on January 21, 1938 in Yorkville, Ohio to Anna and Andy Zagalia and has been a resident of Crestview for the past 30 years. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Church.
She married the love of her life, Russ Garner, in 1956 and they raised two daughters together. Rose dedicated her life to her husband and family, and she was loved by all who knew her, especially her nieces and nephews. She was known and admired for her generosity, willingness to help anyone who needed it, and for her quick wit and larger-than-life personality. Her true passion was her exceptional baking and cooking skills – feeding everyone she loved for almost 70 years!
One of her proudest accomplishments was being a military wife, standing next to and supporting her husband for the 23 years he served in the US Air Force as well as during their 64 years together. They led an exciting life that took them to England for five years as well as being stationed in Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and New Jersey before settling back in her hometown of Yorkville, Ohio, where she lived for 25 years before moving to Crestview.
Rose is survived by her two daughters, Anna Garner and Jamie (Bill) Ford and by her grandson, Ryan McDaniel.
Her memory will remain in the hearts of her family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. The lives she touched will live on for generations to come as she inspired those around her with her generosity and unforgettable spirit.
There will be no viewing at the deceased’s request, however the family is planning a joint funeral service at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL sometime in December. Rose and Russ will be interred together after a full military honors ceremony for Russ.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Wounded Warriors Foundation in honor of Rose’s love of military life and those who serve.
