Roy Ernest Laing

Roy Ernest Laing, of Holt, Florida, was born on September 4, 1938, in Niceville, Florida, to Roy Eugene and Kate Laing. He passed peacefully away on October 31, 2025, in Crestview, Florida, with his son and daughter by his side. He was 87 years old.

Roy's life was a testament spanning nearly nine decades to his love for God, family, and a passion for the beauty and joy of life and laughter, which he enjoyed sharing with everyone he came in contact with.

Family and Life

On July 2, 1960, Roy married his sweetheart, Carolyn Goolsby. They originally settled in Crestview, Florida, then finally moved to Holt, Florida, in 1978. They raised two children while living in both locations. Our dad was a hardworking family man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A wonderful role model to us all.

Career and Service

Roy proudly served his country as a Naval Aircrew Radar Operator. After serving, he became an electrician with a government subcontractor, which allowed him the opportunity to travel the world.

Survivors and Preceded in Death

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brother Cecil Laing, and his sister Milly Bailey.

He is survived by his children, Richard Laing and Myra Laing; his grandchildren, Jennifer McPherson, Daniel Mock, and Kristen Mock; and his great-grandchildren, Elijah Westbrooks, Ciarra Westbrooks, Allyson Head, Dante Rogue-Mock, Prudence Rogue-Mock, and Cortland Shutt.

He is also survived by his brother Clyde Laing, sister-in-law Barbara Laing, as well as nieces and nephews Roy Sanders, Kay Matthews, Tina Lawson, Christine Laing-Edwards, and Paula Adams. Roy is also survived by his special family friends, Linda and Christy Owens.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home (436 W. James Lee Blvd., Crestview, FL 32536).
