Roy Richards, Sr.

Roy A. Richards Sr., 75, of Baker, Florida, passed away on August 22, 2021 at home in Baker.

Roy was born in Baker, Florida to James Irvin Richards and Bessie Cox on November 7, 1945.  He graduated from Baker High School in 1963.  He married Betty Sue Howze on July 3, 1964 in Crestview, Florida. He worked as a Defense Contractor on Eglin Air Force Base for 50 years.

Roy loved entertaining his family and friends. He loved to be with family and was always up for a fish fry, a peanut boil, or a jeep ride with the grandkids.

He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give the shirt of his back. He was known by many names, Roy Angus, Daddy, Uncle Roy, and his favorite “Paw-Paw”.

Roy was a strong, proud, and good man. He is loved immensely and will be missed by many!

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bessie Richards, brother Jimmy Richards, and sister Deloris (Richards) Hart. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Sue Richards; children Roy “Andy” Richards Jr. and James “Scott” Richards; daughter-in-law Ginger Richards; sisters Joyce Cosson, Betty Joan Melvin, and Linda Richards; Grandchildren: Jeremy Helms, Johnathan Robinson (Danielle Robinson), Keisha Richards Norville (Ron Norville), Kimber Richards, Drew Richards, Razor Richards; Great-Grandchildren: Haylie Robinson, Ashlyn Robinson, Malachi Eaves, Ayden Brigman, Aaron Eaves, Annlee Richards, Zoe Richards, Shelby Norville, Daisy Norville, Michael Frank Richards, Grayson Roy Richards; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved friends and extended relatives.

Visitation will be 10:00am Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00am. Burial Services will be 12:00pm at Aubrey Jordan Cemetery in Baker, FL.
