Dwight Thomas age 86 of Pensacola, FL passed away on Thursday March 4, 2021 at Covenant Care Scared Heart. He was born in Laurel Hill on January 18, 1935 to Roy Robert and Lena Mae Thomas. Dwight graduated from Laurel Hill High School in 1954. He served his country in the United States Air Force and then went to work Monsanto and retired in 1990. Dwight was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Pensacola. He loved to fish from his dock in Defuniak Springs, loved to read his Bible and listen to gospel music; he loved to eat seafood and watch his westerns; anything to do with WWII he would watch or read about, especially airplanes. Most of all he loved his grandchildren and family. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jason Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Hilda Thomas of Pensacola; son Michael Thomas of Pensacola, sisters: Wynn Potts of Laurel Hill and Olga Holland of Milton; also surviving are his grandchildren: Dekker, Drake and Addison and 2 great grandchildren.
The celebration of Dwight’s life will be on Wednesday March 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Almarante Cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Dwight’s memory to Covenant Care Hospice.
