Ruth Pearl (Gray) Ross

Ruth Pearl Gray Ross passed from this life to heaven Saturday, May 18, 2013.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Freeman Ross.
Ruth was born July 8, 1921, in Chadds Ford, PA, as one of eight children.  She graduated from high school and joined the Women’s Army Corp. in 1944, earning the rank of SFC.  Her service included Cook’s School at Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, the Pentagon and the Panama Canal.
She married Archie in 1952 after a 30 day courtship at Red Bank, NJ.  When Archie was transferred to the Ranger Camp, they settled in Crestview.  Ruth worked at the Draft Board and eventually transferred to Eglin AFB, where she was employed for 30 years.
Ruth followed her children’s interests, at one time being a Brownie leader, Junior Leader and Cub Scout Leader in the same year.  In later years she was active in her Church choir, Sunday School and the American Business Women’s Association.  She enjoyed watching sport, the Atlanta Braves, going to Good Things Donuts and traveling.  
She is survived by a son, Robert Allen Ross (wife, Debra); daughters, Karen Ross Smith (husband, Bill), Jenny Ross Teel (husband, Bruce) and Patty Ross Heldreth (husband, James); sisters, Emily Snyder, Dorothy Baldwin and Pearl Wright; grandchildren, Joe Smith, Rachel Stolley (husband, Mike), Lacy Smith, Morgan Teel, Chancer Teel, Tyler Heldreth, Amber Heldreth, Scott Ross (wife, Kelley) and Michael Ross; great grandchildren, Blake Stolley and Austin Stolley.
A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the chapel of Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home.   Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Crestview.  Burial will follow at 1:15 PM at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project in Ruth’s memory.
