Sam B. Heaton, Jr.

Sam Heaton age 85 of Crestview passed away on Friday June 11, 2021, at his home. He was born in Castleberry, AL on December 8, 1935, to Sam B. Heaton, Sr., and Viola Heaton. Sam spent his younger years on the family farm and moved to Crestview in 1950. He graduated from Crestview High School in 1955. After graduation Sam enlisted in the Navy and served his country for 4 years. While home on leave he married his high school sweetheart Ruth Evans in 1956. After serving his 4 years in the Navy Sam, Ruth and their baby Debbie returned to Crestview. Sam went to work with Chemstrand Nylon Plant, which later changed its name to Monsanto Chemical Nylon Plant. He retired after 31 years. Upon retiring Sam loved working in his yard and his 2 hobbies: Harley Davidson Motorcycles and a 1936 Ford Coupe that he restored. His family and friends were his life. Sam was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Viola Heaton and a brother Robert William Heaton. Survivors include his wife of 65 years Ruth Heaton, daughter Deborah Ellen Heaton Givens and her husband John and a son James Keith Heaton and his wife Gayle. 2 grandsons: Daemond Keith Powers and Matthew Jay Heaton who were loved very much by their PaPa. Also surviving are 3 great granddaughters: and brother Joseph Gilbert Heaton and his wife Mildred and a sister Hazel Lynette Jackson and her husband Levaughn along with many nieces and nephews and many many friends. The celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Wednesday June 16, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. There will be a private family graveside service.
