Shirley Fay Brooks, age 83, was born on August 10, 1942, and went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2025, with her loving husband, Rhett Brooks, by her side and surrounded by family and friends. They shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Shirley passed peacefully as the Bible was being read to her. She was a devoted Christian woman who loved her family deeply and loved God above all else.
She is survived by her two children, Kelly Harris and Gary Brooks; her grandchildren, Danielle Brooks, Heather Brooks, Cameron Brooks, and Gabrielle Brooks; and her great-grandchildren, Bryce Brooks, Layah Purvis, and Logan Purvis. She is also survived by Charity Brooks, the mother of Cameron and Gabrielle.
Shirley and Rhett were lifelong members of the Airport Road Church of Christ, where their faith in God and commitment to His Word formed the foundation of their lives. She constantly reminded her family of God’s love, grace, and promises.
Shirley was a sweet, gentle soul who found joy in cooking and baking for her loved ones. She enjoyed reading, painting, and writing, and she loved to travel, making friends wherever she went. She also spent many years as a substitute teacher, where her kindness and patience touched countless lives.
If there is one thing that can be said without a doubt, it is that Shirley Fay Brooks was a strong Christian woman with a big heart and a helping hand for anyone in need. Her faith, love, and kindness will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 10:00-11:00am at Airport Road Church of Christ, with Funeral services beginning at 11:00am.
Following the service, the family will proceed to Pyron Chapel in Baker to lay Shirley to rest. Afterward, family is invited to return to the Airport Road Church of Christ for dinner and fellowship. Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
