Shirley York

Shirley York, age 68, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 26, 2020. She was born on June 3, 1952 in Florala, Alabama to Martha and Joseph Adams. Shirley worked at the lunchroom in Northwood, Richburg, Walker Elementary, and the Central Kitchen at Okaloosa School Systems. She attended New Beginnings Church and Valley Road Baptist Church for years. She volunteered at Silvercrest, Parthenon, and Shoal Creek Nursing homes. She loved singing and ministering to spread the gospel. She was a member of the “Walking by Faith” ministry. Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Warren Gainey and his wife Shawna of Crestview.

She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband, Daniel York; Daughter, Cindy Renee Long; stepsons, Adam York and wife Christina, Mark York and wife Melissa, and Stephen York and wife Melissa; stepdaughters, Patty Crawford and Stephanie York; sisters, Sandra Rytman, Betty Adams, and Lynn Rogers and husband Alan; grandchildren, Joseph Alan Brannon, Erick Culpepper, and Trevor Culpepper; and 14 step great grandchildren.

A graveside service with the family will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 10:00 am at Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill, Florida. Pastor Harold Morris is officiating the service.

The family asks that if you come to the services that you practice social distancing in family groups and that you wear a mask or face covering while at the service. Shirley loved her community and would not want to be the cause of spreading COVID to any of her friends or family.
