Teresa Rogers Obituary

Teresa Dianne Rogers (67), born November 09, 1955, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is greatly missed and life will never be the same without this special soul… Teresa’s life was spent in devoted service to others, most especially her precious family. From a very young age, she filled her days with an intense devotion to her son, Lee. She made it her mission to love, protect and prop up her baby boy at all costs, and would continue that task through the remainder of her days. As time progressed, the family grew and she became affectionately known as Grandma TT - that same devotion, love and guidance spilled over to all other family members. We are all better humans for having known her and have each accepted priceless advice from her wise soul. Her guidance was always centered in love and a clear perception of right/wrong through a good old fashioned finely-crafted Christian moral compass. These things were a guiding light when any of us were lost. In that spirit, I have frequently quoted to/about her that “Jesus and Mama always loved me” and that radius of love and support extended far beyond, to envelope countless friends and family. From all of us… thank you, Mom. She also played many roles outside motherhood, both professional and personal. While so many pursue formal education to format and inform their lives, she was more fulfilled simply by being Mom - she worked to live and never “lived to work”. However, that fact didn’t prevent her from also becoming successful in her professional life. As a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County, Teresa became very well known in the Panhandle, through many leadership roles in the local banking community and even finished her career by retiring from the Okaloosa County Clerk of Court as a leader in probate affairs, where she continued to serve all those in need. She was elegant in her demeanor/delivery and there are countless stories of her providing calm and reassuring assistance to those in a time they needed it most - her compassion and love for those in need was unbounded. Again… a special human. In her leisure, there were a few constants - preparing grand meals for family gatherings, a love of reading, studying her bible and listening to Pastor Joey Rogers’ sermons, countless trips to Pigeon Forge/Cade’s Cove and watching those shows that reminded her of the simple days of yesteryear, like Andy Griffith, Murder She Wrote, Masterpiece Theatre, The Two Fat Ladies, Driving Miss Daisy and On Golden Pond. Teresa was preceded in death by her mother and father, Charlotte Hewett and Roland Williamson; a grandson Preston Medley; daughter-in-law Michelle Bowen; special friends Marcia Dotson, Jimbo Ward and David Murph. She leaves behind a loving son and daughter - Lee and wife Kimberly Bowen; grandchildren - Christina Hall (Jonathan), Nate Bowen (Tori), Devin Justice (Carolyn), Dayne Justice (Kylie); great-grandchildren - Barrett, Emmalynn, Ryder and baby Bowen (due in September); Daddy - Charles Hewett: Siblings - precious sister and best friend Laura Tipton (Sam), brother Chuck Hewett (Sandy), sister Cyndi Laing (Wayne); a host of loving nieces/nephews; special friends - Arthur and Cindy Baker, Vicki Jackson, Gloria Cope and Michal “sister” King, as well as, lifelong friend Diane Hooks and a very extended network of family, friends and many others she touched in some meaningful way. At Teresa’s request, final arrangements for cremation will be handled by our friends at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home, with a celebration of life to occur at a later date for close friends and family. Special thanks to Ascension Sacred Heart Cancer Care and Covenant Care Hospice (Sacred Heart). In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the charities that provide tireless support to our dear loved ones who continue to fall victim to this dreaded enemy, cancer. Ever a supporter of ALL things pertaining to children, Mom loved and supported St. Judes Charities, if that helps…

Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com
