Thomas Buscavage Obituary

Thomas James Buscavage, beloved child of God, faithful husband, father, and grandfather departed this earthly life on May 31, 2023 to receive the heavenly rewards of a life well spent.  He was born on June 1, 1943 to Anthony and Helen Buscavage.  He leaves behind his devoted wife of 54 years, Denise, children Julie (Shawn) Harper and Aaron (Amber) Buscavage, grandchildren Emma and Lane, sister Antoinette (Louis) Mattu, brother-in-law Thomas Lockhaven, special niece Tonianne (Paul) Bereski, and many extended family members, church family, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Lockhaven, and brother, Ronald Buscavage.  Tom was an educator, spending most of his career at Baker School as a Title I math teacher where he was loved by both students and staff.  Tom was also an ordained minister in the Community of Christ, serving many years as district and branch presidents.  With the help of his fundraising efforts, the local Crestview congregation was blessed to build a new sanctuary.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving proudly during the Vietnam era.  He served as a commissary man where he learned many culinary skills that served him well throughout his life, baking and cooking for others.  He never missed an opportunity to share his cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls.  He and his wife enjoyed many years in retirement, traveling, spending time with their grandchildren, volunteering together, baking cookies for fundraisers, cooking at church youth camps and reunions.  Tom was also instrumental in beginning the Community of Christ food pantry and community meals.  His leadership and dedication to his family, church, and community will be greatly missed. Those who knew him best will appreciate the fact that he donated his earthly body to science. It is with grateful appreciation that the family extends a sincere thank you to Emerald Coast Hospice for their dedicated care and support during this time of transition.  A special thank you is extended to Heather Moore for providing loving and compassionate care that always brightened his day.  Heartfelt thanks go also to our children, Julie and Aaron and sisters, Trish and Lesley, who were with us every step of the journey.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Visitation will be at the Community of Christ on June 3, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Outreach International (Outreach-International.org).

Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com
