Velma Eliza (Lundy) Haddock, 96, of Crestview, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, November 30, 2023. She passed away peacefully at Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center. There will be a visitation beginning at 10AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11AM. Interment will be at a later date at the Brickyard Cemetery in Kings Ferry, FL.
Velma was born on January 12, 1927 in Laurel Hill, Florida, the fifth child to Joseph (Joe) and Elizabeth (Hutto) Lundy. Velma graduated from Laurel Hill High School. She attended Florida State University when it was Florida State College for Women to become a school teacher. She taught at Destin, Florida in 1946 and in Hilliard, Florida in 1947 where she met her husband the late Walker Haddock, Sr. They were married in Thomasville, GA on March 17, 1948. Velma lived in Hilliard with her husband until his death in 1999. She moved to Crestview where she has lived since 2000. Velma was able to spend precious time with her beloved brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, and had frequent visits from her children and grandchildren. Velma has been a resident of the Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center for several years and she made many wonderful friends while there. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Hampton Walker Haddock, Sr.; parents, Joe and Elizabeth Lundy; three brothers, Gerald, Hayden and Winston Lundy; two sisters, Ouida Snellgrose and Mary Jo Erskine.
Velma is survived by four children, Walker (Vicki) Haddock, Jr. of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Lawanna Haddock of Orange Park, FL, Joey (Susan) Haddock of Decatur, AL, and Jeannie (Wiley) Owens of Orange Park, FL; one brother, Foy Lundy; and one sister, June Corbin. Velma leaves behind nine grandchildren, Bryan (Kristin) Haddock, Brett (Suzi) Haddock, Brooke Talley, Katie Starling, Chris (Christine) Haddock, Stephen (Jen) Haddock, Daniel Haddock, Bert Owens, and Ben Owens, and 13 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Crowned for Ashes, a ministry supporting widows as well as wounded, ill, or injured veterans through faith-based respite retreats.
