Velmarine Locke Barnes age 85 of Crestview passed away on Saturday September 12, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Crestview, FL on July 4, 1935 to Joseph and Lillie Mae Locke and has been a lifelong resident of Crestview. Velmarine worked for the telephone office, for Alatex, and took care of children for many years. The greatest love of her life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to cook, research recipes and plan meals for her family. Velmarine loved spending time with her family. She was known as a very competitive gin rummy player at family gatherings. Velmarine loved the Lord and was an active member of Airport Road Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and her husband Rhett Barnes.
Velmarine is survived by her children: Toni Russell and husband Michael, Sandra Naylor and husband Jim, Karen McCool, Metz Barnes, and Misty Barnes; brothers Dwayne Locke and Emery Locke; sister Clara Rytman; 7 grandchildren: Erin, Ryan, Lauren, Kara, Matthew, Skyler, and Cameron; and 12 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews that she loved like her own.
The celebration of Velmarines’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Airport Road Church of Christ with Pastor Mark Dillman officiating. Burial will be at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will be begin at 10:00 a.m.
