Vern Snellgrose age 80 of Baker passed away at his home on July 11, 2023. He was born in Lawrence, Michigan on January 25, 1943, to Marvin and Ouida Snellgrose. Vern has been a longtime resident of the area. He served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty plus years and when he retired from the Air Force he also worked for the state with children and he thourally enjoyed working with them. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist. Vern was a prankster at heart and loved pulling jokes on people and keeping them on their toes. He loved the outdoors and taking care of his place, Vern’s Valley. Vern loved being on his tractor and lawnmower, he loved muzzleloading and saltwater fishing. Vern loves his horse and showing folks what his horse could do. He was a member of the Okaloosa County Sherriff’s Mounted Posse. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jenois Snellgrose and brother Virgil Snellgrose, Sr.

            Vern (affectionaly known as NORM) is survived by his wife Liana Snellgrose; daughters: Cynthia Mesa and her husband Nelson and Sheri Acosta and her husband George; Sisters Pat Rocha and her husband Mike and Vivian Mangold and her husband David; 5 grandchildren: Mark Mesa and wife Jessica, Tiffany Bray and her husband Michael, Robbie Haring and his wife Abbey, Lauren Acosta, Rachel Ackley and her husband Jessie;  and 3 great grandchildren also survive: Sophia, Kaitlyn and Lily Jenois and his unofficially adopted son, Kevin Hilton and his wife Ashley and their son, Andrew Vernon Hilton along with numerous extended family and friends.

            The celebration of Vern’s life will be held on Saturday July 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Baker, FL. A time of visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 a.m. The burial will take place in Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill, FL.
