Willie Jean Campbell, age 88, of Crestview passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Covington County, Alabama, on June 3, 1934, to Robert and “Sudie” Wiggins Taylor, she was the ninth of their ten children. Wille Jean grew up in Laurel Hill and graduated from Laurel Hill High School. She worked for the Department of Agriculture for a number of years. Willie Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crestview. When there was a need or someone needed a friend, Willie Jean was always quietly there to help. She loved to cook and work in the yard, but most of all she loved her family. She was preceded in death by parents, Robert Lee Taylor and Susannah Jane Wiggins Taylor and nine siblings, Corie Lee Taylor, Virgie Irene Taylor Grover, Jessie Carson Taylor, Clarence E. Taylor, Brogdon Mizelle Taylor, Robert Douglas Taylor, Walter Smith Taylor, Merrill Cawthon Taylor, and Barbara Sue Taylor Adams. Willie Jean is survived by her husband of 73½ years, Daniel Campbell; daughters, Susan Cassady (Kevin) and Peggy Acton (Ty); grandchildren, Martha Coan (Adam), Cory Acton (Erika), Emily Carson (Tierre), Savannah Thompson (Josh), Katelin Slaughter (Jeffrey), and Eli Cassady; great grandchildren, Armon Acton, Elora Slaughter, and Rawling Thompson, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The celebration of Willie Jean’s life will be held on Monday, February 13, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Almarante Cemetery.
