Yvonne Boyd

On Thursday, June 18, 2020, Yvonne C. Boyd passed away at age 83. 

Yvonne was born in Dothan, AL on February 16, 1937 to Lawrence and Opal Clark.  It was in Dothan where on May 30, 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, the Reverend Johnny R. Boyd.  Together they ministered to churches in Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.  Her gentle and quiet spirit was a perfect balance to Johnny’s outgoing and entertaining personality.  Her love for her Lord and His Word was evident as she taught Sunday School for many years, passing along her wisdom and godly example to young couples all over the South.  She could always be found in the choir loft adding harmony with her beautiful alto voice.

In 1972, she finished her Bachelor’s degree in Education at Valdosta State University, later completing a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Florida.  In her long career of elementary school teaching, she impacted the minds and hearts of hundreds of children.  She retired from Bob Sikes Elementary School in the summer of 1999.  Even then, she continued to volunteer in the Oak Grove school system in Hattiesburg, MS.

She and Johnny raised four children in a house full of love and laughter.  Yvonne could often be found at the sewing machine, but her favorite place to be was in the garden.  She was well known for her cooking and hosted many deacons parties with gracious Southern hospitality.  And she loved sports of all kinds. 

She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Marvin and Judith (Clark) Pope (Columbus, GA), as well as her four children and their spouses, Donna (Boyd) Askew (Albany, GA), Larry and Jana Kay Boyd (Hattiesburg, MS), Keith and Danise (Boyd) Stokeld (Brooklyn, NY) and Andrew and Krista Boyd (Pace, FL), as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. 

The immediate family will gather in Crestview for a private time of reflection and gratitude to the Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2020, followed by internment at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Yvonne’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.com).
