Gloria Agnes Mendez Reedy

April 20, 1933 ~ October 15, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Gloria Agnes Mendez Reedy passed away on October 15, 2016 on the 62nd anniversary of her wedding.  She was 83 years old.

Gloria was born in Brownsville Texas on April 20, 1933 to Jose Mendez & Ramona Isabel Larumbe Cortez.  She was one of 10 children.  Her siblings Juan Jose (predeceased), Guillermo (Willie), Elijio (predeceased), Robert, Rita (predeceased), Jose Enrique (Henry) (predeceased), Maria Margarita, Maria Josefina.  She married Alex C. Reedy on October 15, 1954 in Brownsville, Texas and started a family soon after and became an officer’s spouse.

She worked part-time at all of the locations they were stationed (Harlingen AFB, TX (where Alex C. Reedy Jr. was born), Perrin AFB, TX (where Jerry R. Reedy was born), Clark AB, Philippines (where Karen L. Reedy was born), Loring AFB, ME (where James A. Reedy was born), Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, Tyndall AFB, FL, and finally Patrick AFB, FL.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Samantha Reedy Nayes, Alex Reedy, Jake Lorino,  Jordie Lorino, Jason Reedy, Josh Reedy and Joseph Reedy.  

She was a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Brownies.  She volunteered to be Team mom for the baseball teams and even coached Karen’s softball team.  She was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) teacher, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), Ladies Auxiliary, and a strong supporter of the Catholic Church. 

Her children received their athletic prowess from her as she was a drummer in High School and excelled in golf and bowling where she accumulated a wall full of trophies.  She learned the Philippine Candle Dance and performed it whenever asked.  She was an excellent cook who was known for her baking and especially traditional Mexican dishes (enchiladas). Oreo’s were her favorite sweet.

She was predeceased by her husband Alex and her son Alex Jr.  Her funeral will be held Monday, October 17 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 550 Adams Drive, Crestview 2 pm with viewing at 1 pm.

She was a great wife, mother and did what she needed to do to take care of her family and the people in her life.
