Irene Nixon

Mrs. Irene Nixon, lifelong resident of Crestview and lower Alabama is now an eternal resident of Heaven. 

She had many titles to those that knew her, the Queen, the Duchess, Madam President and to her grandchildren GiGi.  To her children she was just Mother. She desired no other title than Christian.  Irene was a lifelong Christian and Prayer Warrior.  If she knew you, she was praying for you. 

She now joins her husband of almost 50 years, Rufus, two sons, Jesse Matthew and Kenneth Gary, two grandsons, Nicky and Matthew, her mother Naomi, three sisters, Vassie, Addie Bea, Ruth, and her brother Virgil.     She leaves her devoted daughter Dianne Nixon Griffith and husband Eddie, son Michael Nixon and wife Tammy, with a life time of wonderful memories.  She also leaves twelve grandchildren, Matthew Nixon, Holly Nixon, Gary Nixon, Sonya Nixon Woods (Tommy), Eddie Griffith, Jr. (Athena), William Rufus Griffith (Ashley), Andy Griffith (Carrie), Sonya Nixon Faircloth, Victoria Nixon Faraci (James), Mandy Nixon, Lindsay Garrett (Caleb), and Courtney Chessher.    Also, 18 precious great-grandchildren, as well as many lifelong friends and family.

Her family would like to send a special thank you to the staff and residents at the Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center in Crestview.  This was her home for the past three years.  They became part of our family.  There are several nurses and CNA’s that were extra special, as well as many residents. 

Irene was loved by all she met and lived her life in service to God. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched; so many they can’t all be mentioned.

Her arrangements will be handled by Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home.  A visitation is planned for Wednesday May 13 at the Whitehurst Powell Chapel from 5 to 7 PM and the funeral service at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Whitehurst Powell Chapel.  Her body will be placed beside her husband, Rufus, at Lewis Cemetery in Butterbean, Alabama.
