Virginia Mae Deaton, R.N., age 80, longtime resident of Crestview, passed away Monday morning, May 30, 2016, at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview.
Virginia was born August 8, 1935, in Lee County, Virginia, to the late Elmer Ray Fisher and Tennessee Barnett Fisher. She enjoyed a long career as a Registered Nurse, working at the emergency room at North Okaloosa Medical Center, then as a charge nurse at Parthenon Health Care, until her retirement at the age of 79. Virginia’s professionalism and dedication earned her the Health Care Excellence Achievement Award.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Deaton.
Virginia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Randy Gillespie, of Crestview; grandson, Scott Saucer, of Crestview; her great granddaughter, Jordan Elizabeth, of Houston, TX; two sisters, Cordelia Rhoton and her husband, Roosevelt, of Gate City, Virginia, and Geneva Elkins, also of Gate City; and her devoted companion, her cat Elvis.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016, from 6-8 PM at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Committal services and burial will follow at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.
