Nellie Hope Fleming Bowers, age 87 of Crestview, Florida and a lifelong resident of Crestview, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 at North Okaloosa Medical Center at 4:30 am.  She was born in Crestview, Florida on August 21, 1922 to Dr. E.A. Fleming and Irene Clary Fleming.  Nellie graduated from Crestview High School in 1940 and studied at F.S.C.W. (Florida State College for Women).  During W.W.II she was employed in civil service stationed at Eglin Air Force Base and continued her career working in that capacity until her retirement after 28 years of loyal service.  Nellie was greatly admired by her fellow employees.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crestview from 1946 until her death.  Nellie was a kind, gentle, unselfish lady and loved by everyone who knew her.  
Nellie Hope was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Ewell A. Fleming and her mother, Irene Clary Fleming; brother, Dr. Dale Fleming and nephew, Robert A. Fleming.  She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lewis E. Bowers; son, Lewis Alton Bowers and wife Boonroeng Bowers; grandson, Arnel Bowers and granddaughter, Christine Holley and her husband Mark; sister-in-law, Nellie Barrow Fleming; step-grandchildren, Netnapa, Hatairat, and Thapani Sawaengsri.  
Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Crestview on Wednesday, October 29, 2009 at 11 am with pastor Mark Broadhead officiating.  Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.  Flower accepted but family request donations be made to Thornwell Orphanage, Clinton, South Carolina.  Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
